50th Ball Charity to Highlight

Charity – Thrive Community Support Circle

  • For the past 50 years, Thrive has been providing barrier free services to people of all ages and stages to cultivate life, empower individuals and grow community to create a healthier society for all. 

  • Thrive provides essential needs like food, clothing and baby supplies, a resource centre and drop in space, parenting programs mental health and wellness services, tax assistance, family support staff, job skills training, volunteer opportunities, community safety and gender based programming, a community thrift store and a licensed child care centre.

  • A larger majority of individuals and families in Winnipeg’s Downtown West End experience poverty, housing instability resulting from relocation and settlement, marginalization, and trauma than other areas of Winnipeg. 

  • Over the past three years, the number of individuals accessing Thrive’s programs and services has dramatically increased, with 24,000 total visits to the Resource Centre from April to November.   
  • Through programming and counselling, participants develop self-worth, self-awareness, and communication strategies and set personal goals. Counselling Service provides one on one services as well as group counseling for adults, children, and families at no charge.

Donation to Support Candace House 

  • After the life of their 13-year-old Candace Derksen was taken. Her family decided to create a space to help victims of crime during one of that most difficult times of their life.
  • At Candace House, families are provided with a safe and comforting refuge, snacks, meals, and beverages. They receive wrap-around emotional, mental health, and practical supports, as well as help navigating the justice-system, including court accompaniment and legal system information.
  • The Healing Haven at Candace House offers a safe and comforting home-like day refuge located within one block of the Winnipeg Provincial Law Courts for victims, survivors, and families attending court proceedings.
